Pledge to Take 6 Simple Steps To Safe Food

We all love food. Right?
Of course …  but not when it makes us sick!

Unfortunately, 1 out of 6 people gets sick from a foodborne illness each year in the U.S. — causing over 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.

Food safety does matter,  and we think it matters to you.  So, what will you do to keep yourself, your family, and your guests safe?  Take action! Become a Champion for safe food and help us make a difference.

Here’s how: Take the pledge to follow these 6 simple food safety steps AND tell everyone you know what you’re doing.  By becoming a Champion, you show your commitment to safe food.   Ask your friends, family members, and customers to support your pledge by making a donation which will be used to promote food safety education. You’ll also receive prizes based on the amount of donations you receive.

The pledge -  I pledge to:

  1. Put a thermometer in my refrigerator and freezer, and check regularly to make sure the refrigerator is 36-40°F, and the freezer is 0-10°F.
  2. Wash cutting boards, countertops, and cooking utensils with soap and hot water after each use.
  3. Thaw meats, poultry, and other perishables in the refrigerator, cold water, or microwave (if planning on cooking immediately after), and not at room temperature.
  4. Use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of meat, poultry, seafood, and egg dishes when cooking.
  5. Place perishable foods and leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer within 2 hours  (or 1 hour when the temperature is above 90°F).
  6. Use only clean utensils and dishes when I remove cooked food from the stove or grill to avoid cross-contamination from raw food.
